Using Crimp Connectors with your Smartcontrol
Push-on crimp connectors (as shown above) are a popular way of connecting wires to motors and batteries. These type of connectors should only be used with stranded wire, never solid wire. Although the wire leads on your Smartcontrol are stranded wire, the ends have been tinned for insertion into the factory test fixture.
If you are soldering the wires to your motor the tinned ends make soldering easier.
If you are using crimp connectors, you must remove the the tinned ends to achieve a reliable connection. Follow the 4 steps shown below.
1. Cut off the tinned end of the wire
2. Strip off 1/4" (5 mm) of insulation
3&4 Insert the stripped end of the wire into the connector and crimp.
